The temperatures are slowly getting a little chillier, the leaves are falling to the ground, and the winter season is on the horizon. As bummed as you are that this year’s warm weather season has officially come to a close, it’s about to get really festive … everywhere you go.

As you store your golf cart away this winter, please keep in mind how important it is to properly care for (and prepare your cart for) the cold weather season.

Here are some winter storage and maintenance tips and tricks to keep your cart in pristine condition while its in hibernation for the winter.

Step 1: Clean Your Golf Cart

The first step in storing your golf cart for the winter is to give it a good cleaning. This will not only help preserve its appearance, but it will also make it easier to inspect for any damage or wear and tear that may need to be addressed by the spring. Clean the exterior of the golf cart and be sure to remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated on the tires or undercarriage.

Step 2: Inspect Your Golf Cart

Once you have cleaned your golf cart, it’s time to inspect it for any damage or wear and tear. Look for any cracks or dents in the body, and check the tires for any punctures or worn spots. Check the battery connections and ensure that they are clean and secure. If you notice any issues, it’s best to address them now, before you put your golf cart into storage.

Step 3: Charge Your Golf Cart Battery

Then you’re going to want to fully charge the battery as a fully charged battery will not freeze and you will want to avoid a battery ever going completely dead. A stored golf cart battery needs to be checked consistently throughout the winter to ensure it stays in good condition and fully charged. Also make sure that if you have lead acid batteries that they are full of distilled water.  All these things are important in maintaining the life of your batteries. 

Step 4: Store Your Golf Cart Indoors

The ideal place to store your golf cart for the winter is indoors, such as in a garage or storage shed. This will protect it from the elements, including snow, ice, and rain. It will also prevent it from being exposed to extreme temperatures, which can cause damage to the battery and other components.
